The Sakyong (Earth protector) is the head of the Shambhala lineage and an accomplished teacher in the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan buddhism. He is a manifestation in our age of a great 19th century scholar and teacher, Mipham, Rinpoche, and a manifestation of Manjusri, a buddha of wisdom. While Manjusri is typically shown holding a sword overhead, the current Mipham penetrates people's heart with his smile and whole being.
